It’s seemingly harder and harder to find a good price on something these days. No matter what you are searching for it is difficult to find a low cost option without tireless research. Luckily when it comes to finding the best home security price you have some clear options.
The first thing you must go in knowing is that there are industry giants, and industry unsung-heroes, however, just because a company has more advertising capital, does not make them a better security option.
The first impression I had was the clear cut difference between wireless and wired systems. Since the wireless package seemed like the obvious choice I deemed it the best solution, so each of my reviews are for each companies with what was advertised as a wireless packages.
Where each differs is their up-front cost, the monthly monitoring charge, the length of contract you must sign, and the per item charge for add-ons.
At the end I will discuss what I chose, why I chose it, and what the next step from there is.
Clearly the most expensive unit, ADT is far from ashamed of their reputation. After talking with an ADT rep, who was paid on commission, they bluntly said that yes they were more expensive, but that you get what you pay for, and their products were better. We shall see.
Total Price: $35.99 per month for 2 years (for wireless product)
It turns out that Brinks will not quote any prices about their wireless product over the phone. As it turns out, after doing some digging, the Brinks product is not solely wireless, as it is much closer to a hybrid. Even though I was not able to get a directly answer for my questions, I was able to find some numbers online.
Price: $29.99 per month for 3 years (for wired product)
According to what the people at LifeShield Home Security told me, you will never be charged anything extra for features that should be included in your service. According to them, Other home security companies often charge a lot more for system add-ons, installation, and monitoring. Not to mention the hidden fees many don’t mention until you have signed a contract. Furthermore LifeShield’s offers a free proprietary program called “LifeView,” which allows you to monitor your home and your security system from anywhere in the world, via a secure internet portal or portable device, like iPhone, Android or Blackberry.
Price: 29.99 a month, no term contract (for wireless product)
Dealing with Protect America was terrible. I was seemingly lied to many times, as salesperson was very pushy, and sales oriented.
Protect America has a very good wireless do-it-yourself system, yet it is almost hard to imagine anyone wanting to deal with the people associated with this company. The price per month is more expensive, and the customer service seems to truly be lacking. Quick advice, steer clear.
Price: $34.95 per month for 2 years
What I decided
After looking at the best security systems out there, it seems that LifeShield has the best combination of price, no-term-contract, and product.
The LifeShield product also comes with smoke, fire, flood, and carbon monoxide monitoring for free, where as that would cost another $3 – $10 per month with each other company.
I don’t expect everyone to want to install the system themselves. And if you are that type of person who would rather pay more to not have to deal with it, then definitely go with the company you feel most comfortable with. Although, in the long term you will be paying almost 4 times more per year for the benefit, but that is your choice. Personally, I am very happy with my choice, and cannot wait to get my LifeShield system installed and customized.
